We’re only a fortnight from Winter, and it’s beginning to tell. Despite a sunny day forecast for Bendigo, Tuesday’s rain and persistent cool temperatures are likely to have the track in the soft range, with the Warwick Farm track also likely to be further rain affected. With conditions to suit a few of these runners, we’re hopeful the stable’s success continues.

6. Never Joking | J: John AllenNever Joking is a first starter out of No Nay Never, stepping out here after three jumpouts, the latest of which saw him hitting the line quite nicely. He will have taken plenty of benefit from that, but he is a horse with a nice attitude and has trained well in preparation for this. With most of these first starters, of which we don’t have much of a line of sight, we’re happy just to watch and cheer here.

13. Kusini | J: John AllenKusini steps out here third up after two nice runs, the latest of which was a gutsy win, leading from start to finish over the 1200m in what proved to be a fast time for the night. She’ll handle the going, and from barrier 2, Johnny Allen will look to take a sit with plenty of speed in the race coming from Bencoolen, Fully Blown, He’ll Rip, and The Prodigal Son. It's a relatively deep race for a provincial BM64 with the lull in mid-week city meetings, but she has an excellent winning chance should the gaps present.

3. Boominartie | J: John AllenBoominartie returns here second-up after a luckless first-up run. Having begun only fairly on that occasion, his race was dictated to in a maiden void of much depth, with Johnny Allen unable to extricate him into clear running until the 200m. From that point, he let down nicely, hitting the line well. Johnny will be hoping for more luck here and, from barrier 6, will look to be positive in a race void of much speed. He should be hard to beat.

13. The Art Of Flying | J: John AllenThe Art of Flying sticks to the 1300m here, and should relish any rain we get between now and the race. He stuck on well last time out with Ebony King since franking the form, winning nicely in this grade. From barrier 8, Johnny Allen will look to be in the front third, with pace coming from Hard Reality, Launch Pad and Hard Reality. He’s fit and well, and there is an element of confidence that he’ll run a strong race.

1. Baroque Road | J: Nash RawillerBaroque Road returns here after two trials, in a race with a stack of speed. Allotted with the 61kgs, Nash Rawiller will at least be afforded options from barrier 3. Despite having excuses in both appearances last prep, the market appears to be risking him at the current quote, but if he runs to his best, he can be there fighting out the finish.

1. Dillian | J: Dylan GibbonsDillian is a lightly raced four-year-old out of Camelot, stepping out here for his first Australian start after Group 1 and Listed appearances across the UK and France. Allotted with the 60.5kgs after Dylan Gibbons’ claim, the 1600m is well short of the trip we’ll see him out over later in his preps. He was given a strong trial in the lead-up to this, and from barrier 13 in a race void of much pace, Dylan will look to be positive from the gate, having him roll along at a nice tempo. He is a big unknown kicking off here, but sure to take plenty of improvement from the run.

17. Jayanthi | J: UnknownIn what will likely be her final race before heading to the breeding barn, Jayanthi steps out here back to the 1100m, having recently had success over this track and trip. She drops 6.5kgs, having been imposed with 62kgs last time out, but will need to overcome the wide draw. With pace from Sneaky Shark, Capital Reign, and More The Merrier, we’ll look to go back and use her turn of foot late. With luck early, she may just sneak a place.
