STABLE MAIL
13 APRIL 2023

It’s a busy Saturday for the team with runners at Randwick, Eagle Farm and Werribee.

We have SUBSTANTIAL accepted in both the Petaluma Handicap and the Catanach’s Jewellers Handicap so we’ll add our commentary on him once we’ve made a decision on which race he’ll run in.

Best of luck to all our connections!

Eagle Farm Runners

RACE 1BAKERS REFRIGERATION BENCHMARK 78 Handicap, 1000m

7. Crosswinds | J: Brodie Loy

Crosswinds has continued to improve through his first preparation with us. He heads to Eagle Farm for what looks to be a suitable race on paper. From the good draw we expect him to be able to find the box seat off what looks to be a good tempo.

DANGERS: 4. Fetch, 8. Headwall

RACE 5TAB HALL MARK STAKES, 1200m

4. Ranges | J: Tom Sherry

Ranges resumes here first-up off a 12 week freshen after a mixed preparation, which saw him have limited luck, he has drawn to get the right run on Saturday in the Hall Mark Stakes (1200). On paper, this looks to be an even race and we think the horse is ready to run well first up and progress into a Brisbane campaign.

DANGERS: 6. Coal Crusher, 9. Waihaha Falls

RACE 6SHARP EXTENSIVE IT JRA PLATE, 2000m

1. Huetor | J: Kerrin Mcevoy

Huetor presents 4th up into his preparation on Saturday in the JRA Plate over 2000m at Randwick. Whilst he maps to get a nice run from the inside gate at a start where inside gates are advantaged with the rail out, heavy conditions will make this assignment a tough one. We believe the horse is going well and showed a much-improved effort last start in the Neville Selwood behind Sunshine Rising who he meets here again with a 2kg weight swing. We expect to see the horse continue to improve through his runs as he heads toward another Queensland campaign.

DANGERS: 4. Protagonist, 2. Sunshine Rising

RACE 7MOËT & CHANDON CHAMPAGNE STAKES, 1600m

1. Don Corleone | J: James Mcdonald

Don Corleone steps up to the mile for the first time following a solid second in the Sires Produce Stakes (1400m). He has had a fantastic preparation and has continued to please us at home. The barrier may well be an advantage late in the day at Randwick with horses swooping late. From the gate, we expect to see him get back in the run and be finishing strongly. He will be hard to beat.

DANGERS: 2. Militarize, 6. Make A Call

6. Make A Call | J: Tom Marquand

Make a Call steps up to Group 1 company in what will be his 7th run this preparation. Despite showing signs of greenness up the running when laying out under pressure last start in the Fernhill, he proved capable of running a strong Randwick Mile. He is a very tough horse and continues to impress at home. From the gate, we expect to see him find a stalking position and regardless of the track conditions, he will get his chance.

DANGERS: 1. Don Corleone, 2. Militarize

RACE 8SCHWEPPES ALL AGED STAKES, 1400m

5. Mazu | J: Sam Clipperton

Mazu has returned in very good order this preparation, evident from his two runs this time in over 1200m where he lumped 57kg in the Newmarket when only beaten 2L, before running a gallant 3rd last start in the TJ Smith Stakes behind I Wish I Win and Giga Kick. It is the right time to try him at 1400m at this stage of his career and we are excited to see how he will perform. He is going to need a touch of luck from the middle draw and scratchings on the day will dictate our tactics to a degree but with an economical run and the dangers mapping behind him, he can’t do anything but run well.

DANGERS: 1. Zaaki, 3. Private Eye, 12. Giga Kick

RACE 3RENTAL MANAGEMENT AUSTRALIA MAIDEN PLATE, 1014m

8. Staroshka | J: Lachlan King

Having pleased us in a couple of jump outs, it wasn’t surprising to see Staroshka perform well first up. While he has drawn awkwardly, all he has to do is repeat his last start performance and he will be right in the finish again. We expect to see him continue to improve as he picks up more race experience.

DANGERS: 3. Chicaolte, 6. Penman
